Run For Cover

I honestly feel very bad for the Oilers. This is even worse than that almost-record-breaking losing streak we had after losing Ryan Smyth in the 2006-2007 season. However, the result of that losing skid was Sam Gagner. So I do believe that even though we're just a little half over the season, and we're this bad, the result might be someone better than Sam Gagner. However, it is tough to admit that I am an Oilers fan now that our team has become the laughing stock.

Anyways, what happened to the first few weeks of January? It seems that time is going by way too fast; not that it ever goes by too slowly, but that's besides the point. I've noticed a few things over the last while when I've been at work. The first one is that the moment I start to do some clockwatching, it's like time decides realizes I'm looking at it and slows down so I could catch up to it; however it is completely on the contrary that I want it to go faster. Yeah, I know that's usually the way it goes, but hey, whatever passes the time. Another one, and this happened a while back, is that it's funny the extent to which someone will go to in order to get the attention of someone else. Let me put it in a short, short story.

Just as he is finishing up his shift, she has completed about half of hers. She decides to walk over to him and ask, "is this all you do? isn't it boring?" he responds by giving a bit of a shrug that says "it's all good". Then she'll see that it's safe to proceed to talk about herself and what she had to do for the rest of her shift. So it seems that the conversation is now dead, but when he starts walking to the staff room, they cross paths again. Although not literally because the paths are wide enough for two people to walk side by side, she decided to nudge him with her shoulder to plant a bomb. She smirks as she keeps walking farther away from him knowing that she's done her job. About a few minutes later pass, then about half an hour pass, he suddenly realizes to himself, "what the heck was that for?!"

She got his attention. What up?

Old Friend

You ever suddenly come across an old toy that you used to love so much and play with everyday? The instant you look at it, floods of memory come back into your mind and the movie of good times starts playing. Well, I looked at my blog, and this sort of an image popped into my head. Sure, I posted not overly long ago, but it seems I haven't spent as much time with my blog as I used to. ;)

Well, anyway, since the new year started, it's been a bit tough. I'm quite physically exhausted from listening to the demands of work. Don't get me wrong, I'm incredibly thankful that I have a job; it's just very taxing on a body of my build. However, work is always fun and at the end of the day I'm very grateful that I got to experience life with others and earn some money - which I am quickly spending away - for my future schooling.

I must take an opportunity to mention the Oilers. I absolutely - and I very rarely use this word - hate that people keep saying that the Oilers should tank this year and draft Taylor Hall. Sure, it'll be nice if we have him on the team; but what does that say about Oilers' fans? Last week, I heard someone say to another someone that he could probably put a team together that will work harder than the Oilers. Let's see that. Let's see you put a team together that, not only, will be more skilled, but harder working and more intense than the Oilers. Yeah, I didn't think so. It's extremely frustrating to see the Oilers go through such an awful slump, and the players are the first ones to admit that they're horrible. It's no different than having a retailing company go through a span of five years without making any money or having any sort of success. One other thing that bugs me is how someone will go on to say, "this player sucks. that player sucks. they can't do anything." One example off the top of my head is Visnovsky. The point was that Lubo can't play defense. My response to that is, have you watched him at all? Lubo is not only our best offensive defenseman, he's also our best defensive defenseman that's not named Smid. It's the little things that Lubo does that makes him so effective. So next time, go watch a player play for an extended period of time before you make such a comment.
/endrant.

The Oilers will be good, sooner rather than later; bank on it. The likes of Souray, Visnovsky, Smid, Penner, Brule, Gagner and Cogliano need to stay; whatever the heck else Tambellini decides to do with the team, I don't really care.

Anyways, there's not too much in the long run that I'm really looking forward to, or worth mentioning in a blog post. As stated before, I'm going to be grinding some hours out to try to earn as much money as I can.

The weekend is where it's at.

Standstill

Well my friends, the time has come - to raise the roof and have some fun. Someone please wake me up, because it cannot possibly be 2010; Christmas hasn't even arrived yet, how could it be the new year?

Seriously though, there is no way that the new year has come and gone so fast. I remember last year, when I sat on my couch with my laptop on my lap (duh), and the TV turned to Global Television, and had myself all prepared for the clock to strike midnight; it was, truly, a sweet experience that still feels kind of surreal to me. This year though, it didn't even hit me that the new year was arriving so fast. Once again, I had to work New Year's Eve, which kind of sucked, but today was an awesome day of rest.

So, with all that gibberish being said, I want to wish everyone a very blissed and blessed year of 2010. This year is going to be very hectic, I can see it already.

I'm not going to try with "resolutions" or "goals" or anything like that, because, like I said earlier, this year's going to be different. Good or bad difference? I don't know, that remains to be seen.

Okay, I lied, I'm going to have a goal - at least for the short term. And that goal is to be able to wind down myself at least once a week completely to the point where I'm daydreaming so bad that it feels like I'm stoned. What that means, I have absolutely no idea. But, yeah I did.

I no longer know where this blog post is going, so I think I'm just going to end it there. If you can read between the lines, it kind of tells you what I've been going through this holiday season. Life has been pretty much at a stand still for me, and I can't get out of it. It's tough because the way the world works, once you receive a certain calling, and you're sure that it's the Big G calling, you're gonna get attacked; it's just the way things work, and there's not much you can do but have faith. So, hopefully that's what I can keep, and I won't stray too far from the sidewalk. Yep, that'll do.

Happy 2010. Go Canada! Jordan Eberle for the win.

Deck the Halls?

As taken from the famous Christmas song entitled "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)", the lyrics describe pretty much how I feel: they're singing deck the halls, but it's not like Christmas at all. Okay, I know that I'm taking the context in a different way from the original song, but given just this part, it's holding true for me this year.

I'm not used to working during the Christmas holidays; heck, I'm not used to working at all. But it's still surreal for me to think that tomorrow is Christmas Eve and in two days it will be Christmas. The real sad thing is that I have to work tomorrow, which basically sums up what I've been doing this Christmas "holiday". I guess this is the world of working full time: no real holidays. Normally, you want to have some time off and feel all Christmasy during this week of the year, but it's not the case this year. That's why I find it strange for Christmas to be in two days, because it sure doesn't feel like it, even with the snow and cold weather. However, I don't have to work on Boxing Day, so I'm happy.

Two things at work have come to mind and are worthy of sharing. The first one is pretty odd. I will be working on the floor, dealing with my rack of clothing or whatever. Then, I'll be approached by a customer, and this is how they greet me: "do you work here?" The first time I was asked this question, the response I had ready was "what the..?", but of course, I saw that it was an elderly lady that needed help reaching for a shirt, so I was glad to help her. A while later, it happened again. And eventually, it happens at least a few times a day now. This is the conclusion that I have to everyone that asks me this question. If you are looking at me, and I'm wearing a black shirt that says "Sportchek" on it, standing with a bunch of security tags, price guns, PDT, etc., I am doing Sportchek work, and you're still retarded enough to ask me if I worked there, then I should be allowed to say no. I know it may sound very angry, but it really isn't; it's just something that I find humorous.

Here is the story of the week. I have about an hour left in my shift, and the store is packed busy. I'm walking through and my boss pulls me aside and asks me if I can do him a favor. As it is almost impossible to tell if my boss is joking or now - same with quite a few coworkers - I said something really cheesy. So after agreeing to do the favor, he handed me a twenty dollar bill to go buy him a cheeseburger and a nugget kids' meal. I had to make sure that the two meals gave two different toys as my boss has two children. So I march along to McDicks and line up, trying to remember everything my boss told me to get. So after what I thought was a successful attempt to have the order exactly the way my boss wanted, I dodged my way through many crazy shoppers back to the store. As I pass through the "employee's only" sign, I'm excited to meet my boss' kids and deliver their meal to him. However, when I entered the manager's office, he told me to just leave the stuff on the table and give him the change. My boss then rubs his hands together and starts devouring the cheeseburger and the nuggets by himself! At this point, I'm sure the expression on my face would have been a cross between Homer and Peter Griffin when they're hungover. Then my boss looks up at me and says, "man, thanks so much, I've been craving these all day." Then I laugh, and proceeded out the door realizing the kids' meals were for himself but the toys were for his kids. I thought it was a pretty awesome adventure and thus I went to tell a few coworkers about the encounter. In the end, it provided good entertainment to a long, long shift; and plus, I got a free coke for my efforts because my boss didn't want both of them!

Merry Christmas everyone!
