Self-inflicted Jetlag

I am so professional that I can induce jetlag to myself without having to fly halfway around the planet. Actually, truth is, that since we had our little annual 30 hour famine thing at church, many of us did not sleep during the night. Let me begin with that.

So shortly after AWANA, all the kids started to leave, the older generation started to leave, and the ones left over at church were the ones that were taking part of or joined with the 30 hour famine event. It was a lot of fun and I purposely made sure I was wearing black on the day of it, because I knew we would be doing events where it was pitch black; pretty smart, eh? So lots of us ended up staying up for the entire night until early Saturday morning when people started to come to church again. I haven't done an all nighter in a few years so it was pretty difficult for me to keep my eyes open by the time it got to 7 or 8 in the morning. I had a lot of fun and I hope everyone else did too. I think the only thing that surprised me was that when we played sardines, no one could find me. I sat there in a pretty obvious spot thinking people would find me in no time, but everyone just walked right past me and I got bored. I almost fell asleep, thank goodness I heard Phil say the game was over, or I really might have fallen asleep in that corner. Other than that, it was the typical get together over night kind of thing.. I watched about 2 minutes of Twilight and I couldn't take the movie; it was just that awful. Later at around 3 or something, we watched Bolt, and it wasn't too bad.

So then I went home later that morning at 9 ish and I fell asleep on my bed around 9:30 and slept for a few hours. I woke up because I was hungry, so I ate lunch, then I got tired again at around 3, so I went to bed again. Then I woke up for supper, haha. I love the automatic internal alarm I have for meal times. So then after supper, it felt like the day was just getting started for me, which was pretty weird seeing that the sky was getting dark. So I decided to take advantage of my energy and I managed to duke out the second half of my essay! I must admit, I did not expect that my essay would be finished by Sunday morning. Mind you that it is still a horribly written essay and I won't get more than 60% on it, but it's better than not doing it, which is what I considered doing a week earlier.

Later in the day of Sunday, a few of us gathered at a friends house for a birthday party; it was also pretty fun. Wii shopping had never been more fun to me, ever. Maybe it's because I've never done Wii shopping before. But I think they should put Chrono Trigger on it, then I'd buy it on my Wii for sure!

Well, a few things on my mind before the week starts: I love how the Oilers are in 10th place now, Tavares, here we come! All the grade school people get spring break; I want spring break; but I cannot complain as I only have a week and a half of school left. This should be an interesting week coming up ahead as we get to look ahead to another hockey game next Saturday night!

Now, I gotta get to bed a little earlier to get rid of this jetlag, haha.

Change

Change is a good thing; I've decided to try to brighten up each of my posts from now on by adding a picture that might be describing what I am feeling or what life has been like prior to the post.

I will admit that I am someone that isn't too fond of big changes. When things work out, I wish that they stay the same way forever; when things don't work out, I kinda hope that the world will end because there is no end to the failures. Therefore, I am currently in the "fail" state where things don't seem to be working for me, and coupled with my laziness and inability to do my essay, have chosen to use this Homer picture to represent it. Just to elaborate a little more so you can relate better to it, it is the feeling of garbage. Feeling like garbage doesn't need to be elaborated upon because everyone knows what it's like, so that's my description about the picture - pretty awesomely described, eh? Another reason why I am trying to do this picture thing is because I, myself, need to go through some changes to become a person with a better work ethic; and all these big changes come from the little everyday things, so I will force myself to find a picture to put in the beginning of each post... Because it requires effort okay!

On the topic of change, it also brings me to talking about the 30 Hour Famine that is coming up. I am a strong believer in this event because, not only is it extremely attractive, it really allows us to have just the little taste of what it's like in poverty. Normally, when people ask me to sponsor them, I will do it without hesitation - if I have the money, that is. One of the biggest things I am thankful for is food, because everyone takes for granted the amount we have to consume. I wouldn't call myself a big eater, but a frequent eater; I eat very frequently, usually something every 15-20 minutes. I believe that everyone should sit down in their bed everynight and give thanks for their basic needs. Even if people are doing the famine just because their friends are doing it, I applaud them. Due to my metabolism, I could NEVER stand 30 hours of fasting. This is the reason why I don't do the fasting, but I will always be there to support you guys through the whole process.

However, one thing I think that we can work on is the activities we are doing during the fast. We have access to TVs, computers, games, etc., while others don't. So even though we're not eating, we have a lot of things that can keep us distracted from food. For anyone that actually takes this event seriously, I think it could be nice if you shut off all your electronics to go along with the fasting, because it is then that you will see just a little more than the "no food" policy. But in the end, we're in Canada and we are fortunate enough to have these things, so I am afraid to say that I will be joining in these activities as well.

For everyone that is fasting, I wish you guys the best of luck when it starts at 6:00am tomorrow; it will be a blast and I will do my best to laugh at you guys while I eat some delicious good eats. Just kidding.

Kryptonite

I have one, you have one, he has one, she has one, everyone has one; you know what I'm talking about. I'm talking about kryptonite, the achilles heal that belongs to everyone. Every superhero we crave and drool over has their weakness. We all know that Superman fails when he comes near kryptonite, and we all know what venom, soon to be carnage, did to Spiderman. That reminds me, the next time I need a username to sign up for something, it will be something that relates to my superheroes.

I am trying extremely hard not to be miserable about my English research paper; however, it hasn't worked out the way I wanted to. The only thing that isn't allowing me to do well on my paper is my kryptonite; yes I have a really lame kryptonite, and that is laziness. But year after year, my laziness gets the best of me and I can't put good effort into things that I do - more specifically school. My laziness is so bad, that I don't have a work ethic at all. Just take a look at this moment, right now; I am writing a blog entry instead of doing my research paper. To cut myself some slack, though, I am really struggling on what I want to write about on this paper. I did not read deep enough into the novel to be able to recall, by memory, all the events that happened so I could come up with something. I could go on and on about how I am having trouble with this essay, but that would just bore the hell out of the few people that actually read this.

So, back to my kryptonite. Many people tell me to just get off my butt and get to work, but it's really hard for me to do that. The laziness I possess isn't a "don't feel like doing it" kind of laziness; mine goes far beyond any procrastination that everyday people experience. I know everyone has something that is similar to my laziness. Think about it, what is the one weakness you possess that you just cannot seem to overcome, no matter what? I am talking about the one aspect in your life that when people tell you to just correct it, your response is, "I wish it was that easy."

Well, you're only as good as your weakest part, and laziness absolutely KILLS me. If I was a harder worker, I would be spending a lot less of a time writing about these things that I fail at.

Life Is Wonderful

Life, I must say, is pretty awesome. Outside of the stupid research paper, concert review, and exams I have to do, I really cannot complain about anything in my life. I also like how things happen in my life where they start out completely unrelated, and then end up coming together and making me think, "oh! that's cool".

So, anyways, I had been sort of sick over the last week and it really makes me appreciate the good health I have. It seems a lot of people take good health for granted because we live in a clean city liked Edmonton. I was talking to a friend and then out of nowhere she mentions that she wants to get sick but can never do so. Hmm. That really allowed me to see that many of us really do take our health for granted, and that it almost seems "cool" to be sick.

This lead me to thinking one thing: it usually takes one to know the other. For example, it takes being sick to know what good health really is; it takes failures to know what success is; it takes up to know what's down; do you see what I'm getting at? There's no end to what I'm saying. Jason Mraz's "Life Is Wonderful" really put it all into perspective for me, and I encourage anyone to listen to this song because, not only is it great, it helps you understand what life is all about. This is exactly the way God likes to work, and I give full props to Him for inventing this. It takes us falling, usually many times, before we can truly understand what God can do. If we were always happy, got what we wanted, and lived a good life, then we would never have the need for God, and that's just not cool. This is why I live life the way I do: happy and free of worry - almost. Whenever we're down, people get so caught up within themselves by crying, acting depressed, talking about yourself, blogging about it, etc., that we make it seem like the world is coming to an end; I don't see it like that anymore. It is all about where you choose to put your attention when things like these happen; instead of pissing people off by bringing the world down with you, you turn to what you learn out of it and how it can be taken positively. That's why, when you see the gas prices go up, that's when you think to yourself, "well, I guess I get to ride my bike!" - if you fancy bike riding, that is.

I guess you can take this for what it is to you, I'm not trying to indoctrinate everyone into the mentality of "don't worry, be happy" because that's almost impossible to do when life happens. Worrying can be a good thing, if you choose the good worry over the bad worry, then that is where you see how wonderful life is.
