Finished Second Year

Why, hello there!

I think that when I actually have things I want to do, or need to do, my need to blog pretty much flies out the window - not necessarily a bad thing either.

But anyway, since I'm not really doing anything for the rest of the night, I'll just recollect a few things.

Year two of my program is done. I feel not too bad about my exams, as in they are good enough. When I got to my last exam, it was unfortunate, but I just wanted to leave. So I kind of just derped it and left.

And so last Saturday, my kind parents came down to Calgary to help me move all my stuff back up to Edmonton. It was a great feeling to be sitting here having finished my second year at Ambrose. It was also crazy to speculate at how I'd be graduating this year if I was still in the UofA - assuming I stayed on a four year thing.

So I've been home for a week now, haven't really done much other than spending a lot of my time watching playoff hockey and playing a pretty awesome new game called Tales of Graces f. I was a big fan of Tales of Symphonia for the Gamecube back in the day, so I thought I'd give this one a try; it hasn't disappointed so far.

With the summer being here, it usually also means job hunting. Again, I have to thank the people that I am surrounded with because I've put in almost literally no effort into looking for a job, and I've already had people helping me. So with that being said, I am going to go to Legends golf course on Tuesday morning for an interview. I've never really thought about working at a golf course, especially one out at Sherwood Park. However! I've always had the general impression that people that hang out regularly at golf courses are pretty high class; so I have to admit that it'd be pretty stinkin' awesome if I got the chance to meet some upper class people. Not to mention if I got the chance to see some pretty sweet vehicles, etc., I'd be hella stoked.

One step at a time, I guess. I haven't even had the interview yet, so it is not guaranteed that I'll even work there. So yeah, that's about where I stand right now. I'm pretty excited for summer camp and soccer camp that's happening in July. I'm also excited for my mom to be turning 50 because it's a pretty big deal, to me, when someone hits half a century.

Coolio!

Three In Three

I'm not sure why I decided to upgrade my blog thing to this new layout; but because I did, I'm really confused to where everything is and how it all works now. I guess I get to have some fun trying to figure out how things work again.

I am so glad that in three days, I will be done another year of schooling. I honestly don't know how many years of school I have left in me. So doing one more year, then doing an 8 month internship might be good for me. Basically, in two years I'll be done the minimum I need to have done in order to go into full time ministry. That is two years more than the original plan that I had way back when I said that I absolutely have to do four years of university right after high school and then come out to work full time. I guess what got in the way was the "God" factor, suddenly straightening my paths. Haha.

Anyways, three tests in three days - I'm not entirely sure how I feel about it. I am kind of jealous that a couple of my friends wrote two finals on the first day of finals and now they have a few days to chill before they write their last one. Now that you ask me, I think I would like to have done that instead of the take-a-few-days-off-then-write-all-finals-concecutively thing that I got.

For whatever reason, even though I have three finals, I really don't feel like there should be three. My first final is tomorrow: foundations of church ministry. I think this one is good to have a final, albeit not entirely necessary, so that we can test if we know our basic church stuff.

Then there is Greek that is the middle child. It is unfortunate because I wish Greek was either first or last so I could focus entirely on it. I didn't do so well on my 2nd Greek test this term, so it pulled my mark down a little bit. So with it being in between the Tuesday and Thursday finals, trying to study for it is a little strange.

And on Thursday morning, I write my hermeneutics final. This is the final that I'm a little confused about. Hermeneutics is all about exegesis of a passage, so I'm not sure how you can really have a final about that. I can understand if we had a major assignment to exegete a large passage or whatever, but what are we really going to be tested on? Techniques? I don't know, not sure.

Also, my practicum has officially come to a close now. Although it was pretty bumpy at times, I am so glad that it ended really well. The last month and a bit have been fantastic times at church and I am grateful that it has ended this way. I will part ways as a happy camper, and when I come back in September, I am stoked to work without having that label as "practicum student" and just do what I normally do!

Grindin' time!

And That Makes Two

.. Well, not yet.

In a week and a half, I will be returning home for the summer! Stoked, I know. I was ready for this term to be over about two or three weeks ago. The one thing I am dreading is finding a job, though. I'm probably the world's worst job finder.

With this year wrapping up, I'm probably half done my degree. I say half because there's a few ways I can go about it. Of course, I want to be done in the standard four year period. But I have an internship requirement that has some flexibility to it. Most of the people I've talked to recommended that I take a fifth year to do the internship. If I came straight to Ambrose after high school, I would be fully on board to take the extra year aside from my schooling so I can do the internship. But because I already have a year at the UofA and then a year of working, I really don't want to spend more time in my program than I have to.

So if things work out, this would be my plan.

I come back to Ambrose for year #3. Right after my third year, I go straight into internship for eight months. I would finish at around December, meaning my fourth year's fall term is spent interning. I can do this because I have a full semester's credit from the UofA. So after I finished my internship, I would still have a ~4 course last semester in which I graduate!

It would be tough because I don't get any sort of break between my third year to my internship, then to my final semester. However, if it means I can save a year, I am all for it. I'm not really a workhorse, but I do believe that if I set my heart to it, it's going to get done.

So, hopefully I plan out my courses out correctly, and that the school actually offers them (baffles me to think some courses aren't offered every year), so I can graduate in the Spring of 2014.

That's the plan!

Someone help me find a job, lol. T_T

(Nerd) Life Complete

Before I ask for permission to get my nerd on, I just wanted to make known that this is deserving of its own post rather than putting it together with me mentioning how I forget how old I am.

So, there are a lot of things that can come out of nowhere to make someone's day. The sophisticated people use the word 'serendipity' to describe these types of events. I've been surprised many times in my life by things that are totally unexpected but make me incredibly happy.

However, today's happenings may have topped all of them, and will retain the top spot for a very long time.

As many of you know, I am a nerd. Being a nerd entitles me to do nerdy things, like gaming. I've played StarCraft for a lot of years, since I was in elementary, and I've always found joy in playing this game with friends. I followed the two pro players Testie and Bisu a bit; but other than that, I never caught onto the pro scene too much until StarCraft 2 came out. The whole concept of eSports has grown so large in the past year that when you mention something like MLG, people will kind of know what you're talking about.

So with the game being so popular, and me being more plugged into the people that are known in this area, what I experienced today was the best of all time.

Amos, Jeff, and I queued up to play a random 3 versus 3 game. When we found our opponents and the game started to load, I took a peak at the races and saw that we were all playing random. I thought to myself, "this is going to be such a cheese fest." Then I noticed the name "megumixbear" as one of our opponents. I was pretty surprised because that name belongs to a girl who is relatively famous on the eSports scene. I wanted to find out if it was really her or just someone smurfing with that name. Unfortunately, I'm not a very sociable person, even in a video game; but for whatever reason, I managed to ask at the beginning of the game to see if it was really her. To my surprise, she responded yes.

So, now I'm wondering why a semi-pro player is playing against scrubs like us. And she told us that it was because she was playing 3s with the winners of the tournament that she holds. And I didn't think too much more until Amos decided to open her stream to find that we were live on that stream.

Now, I start to flip out. I couldn't actually believe that I was, at that moment, featured on someone's stream. It's like me being seen in the same interview as Taylor Hall or Jordan Eberle, even if just in the background derping.

I guess it's already pretty awesome that, not only did I get to play a game with someone famous, but thousands of people got to watch Amos, Jeff and I get our butts handed to us by her and her team. On top of that, after the game, I got onto Twitter and sent her a tweet. While still being on the stream, megumixbear is then seen going onto her Twitter, reading my tweet to her, and then retweeting the message I sent her. So, the few of us who were following this shenanigan-ry, we're going crazy.

Thanks to Amos' bad manner by making fun of her, commenting about how she has her mouth wide open when she plays, we caused quite a bit of a stir in the chatroom in her stream.

This was really awesome because it's crazy how, on just a random Sunday afternoon with three guys trying to have some fun, something like this can happen and just brighten up an already awesome day even more. So even though megumixbear has probably already forgotten who we are, and even though I'll probably never get to meet her, it was a really cool experience. My life has been made complete.

Did I mention that she is also quite stunning? (Both in looks and in personality)

And since she retweeted me, I'm going to return the favor and link you to her stream.

http://www.twitch.tv/megumixbear - Click to watch her stream StarCraft and other fun things!

P.S. She had the VOD up earlier with the game including me (oneLove), Jeff (Cheese), and Amos (BeefRoll), but I can't seem to find it anymore. If I can find it, then maybe I'll link that too so people can laugh at how badly we made ourselves look.

Oops!

I did it today, and I know I've done it more than once. I wonder how many times I've told people that I'm still 20 years old instead of 21. Still not used to being this old. HAHA! (Insert awkward silence...)

On this beautiful Sunday night, that is all.
